Banned Books Week begins Sunday
For those who don't know, my biggest soapbox and number one political conviction is the evils of censorship. In fact, one of my bucket list goals is to read all of the books on the American Library Association's list of Frequently Challenged Books.
Banned Book Week is both a celebration of the freedom to read as well as a campaign to keep books available to all. Here are some ways that you can participate:
Check out the main Banned Books Week website
Learn about the American Library Association and what happens when a book is challenged
Get a Twitter or Facebook badge over at Twibbon (I guess you could use it on Google+ too, you rebel, you.)
Find a Banned or Frequently Challenged book to read this week here, here, or here
This year's focus is Comic Books and Graphic Novels
Check out the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund's website
Go browse the comic book/graphic novel section in your favorite local bookstore...
... or online at Powell's Books
Go to an event in your area
Use these great graphics on your website or social media homepage
Visit your local library
This week, I am reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Oregon native, Ken Kesey.
